Oiltanking Employees Provide Birth Assistance to Sea Turtle Babies

Sea turtles are among the world’s oldest and at the same time most endangered species. For this reason, the Chico-Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation in Brazil has set up a program to monitor the oviposition (location of eggs) of sea turtles. The project is carried out in the Açu Port region, where Oiltanking Açu Serviços operates a tank terminal.
In addition to conservation, the program also includes environmental education and awareness-building activities. As part of the latter, six Oiltanking Açu Serviços colleagues participated in the release of the season’s first hatchlings in December 2016. In this way, they helped around 100 baby turtles whose eggs had been collected, numbered, and hatched to safely return to their natural element. This measure significantly increases the chance of the hatchlings’ survival, thus making an important contribution to preserving the species. Our employees were rewarded for their commitment with an unforgettable experience.
