Employees Volunteer as Conversation Trainer, Mentors and English Tutors for Refugees

Conversation Training, Mentoring & Tutoring

Marquard & Bahls and the non-profit initiative JOBLINGE Kompass teamed up since 2016 to help young refugees enter working life. Their cooperation centers on the volunteering of our employees and the valuable exchange of experience between them and the JOBLINGE participants. In recent years, two language courses – later conversation trainings – lasting several weeks were held at our corporate headquarters, in which about 30 employees actively participated each year. Other employees were involved in the JOBLINGE mentoring program and spent six months accompanying a “jobling” on their path into working life. At beginning of 2020, we extended the cooperation by the format of English tutoring. The aim of the tutoring is to support former JOBLINGE participants during their vocational training, which they have recently started, in everything concerning the English language. These can be JOBLINGE trainees with or without refugee background.

In mid-April 2020, we started our eighth round of JOBLINGE conversation training for young refugees - instead of meeting the twenty JOBLINGE participants in person at the Hamburg headquarters, our employees now communicate with them via video call. The training concept changed from analogue to digital shortly before the start. We are happy that we can continue to support our cooperation partner JOBLINGE in the current situation and would like to thank all employees who are not only involved as trainers but also as tutors and mentors despite the difficult conditions!
