Tryavna, Bulgaria (2014) | Support of SOS Children’s Villages
Caring for Children and Preparing Teens to Enter the Working World
In keeping with a cherished tradition, Marquard & Bahls again made a corporate donation of 100,000 euros for an international aid project at the end of 2014. In 2014, this donation secured the annual funding of an SOS Children's Village in Bulgaria, where Oiltanking is represented by a tank terminal in Varna.
The SOS Children's Village in Tryavna, central Bulgaria, was built in 1993 and can accommodate 72 children. Often these children come to the SOS Children's Village with health and mental problems. With the loving care of their new SOS family and educational support, they can overcome traumatic experiences, improve motor deficiencies and develop in a way that is appropriate for their age. Extra lessons and special support make it possible for the children to attend school and discover their strengths and talents. In their spare time, the children and teens in Tryavna pursue many sporting and cultural activities. Young people who have outgrown the SOS Children's Village can move into two SOS Youth program supervised residential communities during their training or studies in Veliko Tarnovo, 30km from Tryavna. As many as 40 young people can live and learn together at these establishments. The teens complete their last two years of high school, do apprenticeships, and prepare step by step for independent lives. Experienced teachers help and support them not only with careers guidance, but also with many issues related to growing up. Young people usually stay in close contact with their SOS families and, if possible, relatives too. In this social network, young people are educated and then receive support in searching for jobs.
