Marquard & Bahls Donation Makes First Aid Courses Possible in the Three-Country Triangle of Peru, Brazil and Colombia
Medical Training
Instead of giving its employees Christmas presents, for several years Marquard & Bahls has donated a larger sum to international aid agencies at year-end. In 2010 the German Red Cross (DRK) used the 50,000-euro donation to organize first aid courses in the three-country triangle of Peru, Brazil and Colombia in the Amazon region. Courses with 40 to 60 participants were conducted at a health center in Santa Rosa. A particular challenge for the project was to get the villagers together to participate in the courses, as they often live in rural areas that are accessible only by boat. The course participants now serve as first aid helpers in their communities and were equipped with first aid kits, vests, shirts and caps for this purpose. The aim of the project was to enable the participants to provide a lasting contribution to healthcare after their return to their villages by passing on their newly acquired knowledge. The first aid courses were held in early 2011. The program ran over a period of eight months.
