Group-wide Afforestation Project: Marquard & Bahls and Its Operating Units Jointly Committed to Afforestation Activities Worldwide
Our forest at Tree-Nation
Trees are important partners in climate protection because they can absorb and store carbon as well as produce oxygen. However, every year 13 million hectares of forest disappear - 17% of global CO2 emissions are caused by deforestation alone.
Therefore, Marquard & Bahls has made afforestation an important focus of its voluntary environmental protection measures. This year, we have drawn up a comprehensive concept which, among other things, includes CO2 compensation by means of afforestation measures. The concept has resulted in a group-wide project which Marquard & Bahls and all operating units are now implementing together. For example, the total flight emissions of our Marquard & Bahls Group amounting to 7,495 tons of CO2 in 2019 were offset by the replanting of more than 26,000 trees in the reforestation project CommuniTree in Nicaragua, certified by "Plan Vivo". This is our largest CO2 offset to date.
Other components of the project include tree gifts for employees and CO2-neutral websites. Watch the video to learn more about what exactly which company will implement. All trees planted so far can be found in the Marquard & Bahls, Oiltanking and Mabanaft forests on tree-nation.com.
