Oiltanking Tank Terminal in Amsterdam: Introducing North Sea Oil

In the presence of Queen Beatrix, Marquard & Bahls and Union Oil Transportation BV celebrate the official opening of the Dutch offshore oil fields "Helder" and "Helm" at the Oiltanking tank terminal in Amsterdam. The crude oil is pumped through a 90-km pipeline to the tank terminal at the seaport of Amsterdam, where it is de-gassed, dehydrated and desalinated. The crude is then ready for transport to Rotterdam or England by ship.

At the beginning of the year, Oiltanking has signed a contract with Union Oil Transportation BV guaranteeing the crude-oil producer the construction of a crude-oil handling facility with 30,000 cbm of tank space and the requisite infrastructure by the end of the year. In return, Union Oil Transportation BV commits to handling its crude with Oiltanking for 15 years. Oiltanking fulfils its side of the deal before the contractual date of completion. The tanks and crude oil processing plant are built within five months. Now that the staff has been trained, Oiltanking is able to begin processing.
