Biodiesel
Oiltanking Amsterdam (OTA) and one of it’s customers have recently signed contracts for the construction of a 200,000 tonnes Bio Diesel plant at the Oiltanking terminal in the Port of Amsterdam.
This customer will invest in the production plant whereas OTA will invest in all the off-site storage tanks. O&M of the production plant itself will be part of the scope as well.
Currently OTA is finalizing the licensing process and is expecting to start as from end 2008 with storing the feedstock and the rundown, with a throughput of 200kt/a, which will be shipped/barged in and out.
It is intended to run the plant on Rape Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Soya Bean Oil and other similar vegetable oils. The small glycerine production stream will be designated as feedstock for further processing including, but not limited to, the conversion into syn gas for bio-methanol production.
This significant investment demonstrates the confidence in the role bio fuels will play in the future of European transport fuels. As a blender and marketer of diesel fuel it is a natural step for this customer to secure supply of quality biodiesel through their own production capability.
