Environment

Protecting the environment is a high priority in all our activities. We monitor and continuously reduce our wastewater, air and noise emissions, as well as our waste generation. We are committed to the efficient and responsible use of energy and materials. All our activities comply with all applicable laws, regualtions and ethical standards.

In the early 1990s, Oiltanking already was known as a pioneer in preventive environmental protection. In Germany, we equipped all of our tanks with double bottoms and leak-detection systems. We also installed vapour return units, reducing our air emissions by more than 99 percent. The installation at our Hamburg terminal in 1992 was the largest ot its kind. In the 1990s, we implemented more stringent internal and external environmental controls in our international facilities. When we acquire terminals, we bring them up to our standards as soon as possible.

We focus our efforts on preventing environmental damage and on quickly, purposefully responding to emergency situations. Our parent company, Marquard & Bahls AG is a shareholder of Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL),  the world's largest organization for oil spill response, to ensure that we are well prepared for emergency situations.
